Overview PicLens ("the App", "we", "our", or "us") is a photo-sharing application designed for large-scale events such as weddings. The App helps guests find photos of themselves using face-matching technology, without having to manually browse thousands of images. Data We Collect ### 3.1 Account & Authentication Data We use phone number-based OTP authentication (via Firebase Auth) to verify users. We collect: - Phone number (used for authentication only) - Firebase Auth UID (anonymous identifier for your session) ### 3.2 Photos Photographs are uploaded by event photographers or admins. Guests may view and download photos associated with their event. Photos are stored securely on Google Cloud Storage. ### 3.3 Facial Data — Important Notice > PicLens uses face detection and face embedding technology to match you to photos at your event. Here is exactly how this works: - When you submit a selfie for matching, we detect your face and generate a numerical vector ("face embedding") — a mathematical representation of facial geometry. - This embedding is used **solely** to search and match photos from your event. - We do **NOT** store your face embedding linked to your name, phone number, or any other personally identifiable information (PII). - Embeddings are associated only with an anonymous session identifier and are deleted after the matching process is complete, or within 7 days. - We do **NOT** build facial recognition profiles, train AI models on your face, or retain biometric data for any purpose beyond the immediate matching task. ### 3.4 Usage & Technical Data We may collect basic usage logs (e.g., app crashes, feature usage) for improving the app. This data is aggregated and non-personal. --- ## 4. How We Use Your Data We use the data we collect strictly for the following purposes: - Authenticating you via phone OTP - Displaying event photos you are authorized to view - Matching your face to event photos using temporary face embeddings - Allowing you to download your matched photos - Improving app performance and fixing bugs We do **NOT** use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to the photo-sharing service. --- ## 5. We Do Not Sell Your Data We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise transfer your facial data, phone number, photos, or any other personal information to third parties. This includes advertising networks, data brokers, and analytics companies. --- ## 6. Third-Party Services PicLens is built on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). By using the App, your data may be processed by the following Google services under their respective privacy policies: - **Firebase Authentication** — phone number verification - **Google Cloud Storage** — photo storage - **Google Cloud Vision API** — face detection in uploaded photos - **Google Cloud Run** — serverless processing for face embedding generation - **Google Cloud SQL (PostgreSQL)** — storing anonymous face embeddings for search Google's Privacy Policy is available at: https://policies.google.com/privacy No other third-party services have access to your personal data. --- ## 7. Data Retention - **Phone numbers and auth tokens:** retained as long as your account is active. - **Event photos:** retained for the duration of the event access period, as determined by the event organizer. - **Face embeddings:** deleted within one year by default and are never stored against your identity. - **Usage logs:** retained for up to 30 days in anonymized form. --- ## 8.
